About
Welcome to Maruca’s Tomato Pies, a beloved pizza destination located on the vibrant boardwalk of Asbury Park, New Jersey. Nestled at 1050 Ocean Ave, this eatery has gained a loyal following for its signature tomato pies that delight visitors seeking a delicious slice in a bustling beach setting. Renowned for its massive slices and crispy crust, Maruca's is not just another pizza joint; it’s an integral part of the boardwalk experience.
As I wandered through the boardwalk's tempting array of food options, the captivating aromas wafting from Maruca’s drew me in almost instinctively. The sheer size of their white pie is enough to make any pizza lover's heart race. One family shared a lighthearted story about a race against a hungry child, resulting in an epic save of a precious slice. It’s moments like these that encapsulate the joy and chaos of beach trips - making a visit to Maruca’s a must.
While many reviews praise the quality of the pizza, there's an undeniable buzz about the long lines that form, especially on busy holidays like the 4th of July. Customers like Joseph Wilson have noted that despite the wait, the speed of service is commendable, and once you get a slice, the crispy edges and perfect cheese make it all worthwhile. However, there are constructive critiques regarding the efficiency of service, with patrons wishing for a more streamlined process to match the deliciousness of the pies.
For those who have been lifelong fans, like Leigh Lagrosa, Maruca’s is more than just a meal; it's a nostalgic highlight of summer days spent by the shore. “It’s the OG for me,” she fondly recalls, emphasizing the memories entwined with each slice. This deep-rooted affection speaks to the brand’s ability to create not just food, but experiences that resonate with its customers.
Their offerings are not just large; they are unforgettably delightful. Each slice, as described by Autumn White, is generously portioned at a mere $6, making it accessible for families enjoying a beach day. With limited seating, the energetic atmosphere enhances the experience rather than detracts from it, allowing diners to soak in the summer vibe while relishing their massive slices of heaven.
So whether you're stopping by for a quick bite amidst the surf and sand or reminiscing about your childhood memories, Maruca’s Tomato Pies stands as a testament to great pizza that connects generations. The flavors, the buzz, and even the occasional chaos of the boardwalk all converge to make this spot a beloved fixture in Asbury Park. The warm, inviting smell of pizza beckons; it’s time to grab your slice and indulge in the delicious tradition that is Maruca’s Tomato Pies.
“ My family walked up and down and back and forth on the boardwalk looking for food. It was crazy hot and I couldn’t imagine eating pizza (also, there was a long line). Then, I went over and checked the pizza out, and smelled all of the smells, and I was hooked! I had a slice of the white pie, and it was ginormous. The only hiccup that happened was that as I walked back to our table, one of my kids reached out and grabbed my wrist - which caused my plate to tip over and for my slice to slide off. Luckily, I have the reflexes of a jungle cat and was able to slam my hand against the hot slice and into the plate - thus saving the day, and my lunch - with only minor burns. It was totally worth it! So good. So big. So hot. So yum! ”
“ If you're craving pizza at the beach, then this place won't disappoint! We went on the 4th of July and the line was long, but it moved quickly. The pizza was great. We ordered a few cheese pizza slices and the crust was nice and crispy. I would definitely bring your own water though. They charge 3 a bottle. ”
“ **Edit - I feel the need to make an edit on my review. I still think the pizza overall is good but I'm tired of waiting in a huge line for 15-20 min and then another 15-20 min to get a slice or two of pizza. Absolutely ridiculous. You wait all that time after ordering and you get basically cold slices. Why the wait then? I always see pies right there on the counter that slices can be grabbed from very quickly and easily. But for some reason there's always a long line and a long wait. It doesn't seem they have any type of management ever or anybody who's in charge just a bunch of teens high School / college kids who obviously have no idea had to do things efficiently. Yet after waiting in a long line to order to in turn wait another fifteen or more minutes for a slice they sure do push the tip. I agree with others the seaside heights location does a much better job. This place really needs to do something with having somebody there who is in charge and keeps things moving. People coming there want to grab a quick slice for themselves or their hungry kids. They don't want to wait 20 to 30 minutes for a slice or two. ** Great pizza. Big slices. Limited seating but at least they have some tables which is nice. Other places have none. Line can be long because it's popular and they send every slice to do a turn in the oven so it can be a bit before you order and get your slice. Not big on when you pay it asks you for a tip before completing the transaction as many places do nowadays and the cashier points out the tip feature. You're literally taking my order and someone else is handing me a slice of pizza. Not a tipping situation. And yes I've worked in multiple food settings including pizzerias. People don't tip when getting a slice usually. I did have one person who said if you don't want to tip just hit no tip and because she said that I tipped her. I appreciated that. Nice option if you want something quick and relatively inexpensive compared to the other restaurants on the boardwalk. ”
“ It’s the OG for me. Been my favorite since I was in the womb. Some days are better than others but it’s always good. Thank you Marucas for all the memories and tasty tomato pies! ”
“ Very good pizza! 6 per slice of cheese pizza. However the slices are massive. ”
“ New Jersey style crispy crust pizza at its finest! These pies are enormous and the sauce is delicious. Just what I wanted from my boardwalk experience! ”
“ Great pizza! Especially the sauce Please heat the pizzas a little more before serving so the cheese can melt. ”
“ Definitely one of the best pizza I ever had. Right on the boardwalk. Great spot for a bite after a nice walk on the boardwalk/beach . I always try to stop by when I'm in the area. ”
